In this episode I will be looking at (and also talking about) the Apollo game Infiltrate, which is kind of like a dumbed down Elevator Action for our Atari 2600. Piczle Colors Mini Review (NSW)

Written by Anthony L. Cuaycong

Title: Piczle Colors
Developer: Score Studios
Publisher: Rainy Frog
Genre: Puzzle, Training, Action
Price: $12.00

Piczle Colors - If you love Nonograms, look no further. An aggregate 300 puzzles sporting up to 15x10 dimensions await you as you try to correct your mistake and bring back color to the world. As with other games in the Picross genre, you use the numbers on the side of a given grid as clues to determine which blocks need to be left blank and which need to be shaded. There are twists, though: You are likewise required to know what colors to use in the process, and in what order they are applied.

You're right to think you have your work cut out for you with Piczle Colors. In a nutshell: It's hard. Hints are available, but if you're a completionist, the only way you get to unlock all the collectibles is to stay away from in-game help. Under the circumstances, the bright visuals and catchy music tracks are decided pluses. Ditto with the interface, which makes full use of touchscreen functions. On the whole, though, the obstacles can lead to frustration and hinder your enjoyment of an otherwise-competent compilation of picture logic puzzles.

THE GOOD
  • Stellar number and variety of puzzles
  • Can be enjoyed in spurts
  • Touchscreen interface adds to convenience
  • Unlockables incentivize no-hint completion of puzzles

THE BAD
  • Clues aren't always presented well
  • Can be difficult to the point of frustration

RATING: 7/10

So Let'S Talk About This Thing

I'll have to admit that I was pretty disappointed when I saw this post:

My first thought was Dammit, Jim.  You're better than this.  I'll admit to not knowing a ton about this Peterson guy, but he strikes me a uneducated person's idea of a smart guy.  A Newt Gingrich with actual credentials, if you will.  Here are the actual details of Jordan Peterson's career as I know them, please feel free to correct me in the comments.
  1. He first came to my attention as a guy who went to war with his university over a change in policy.  Normally, I am all for academics pushing back against administration dictates.  Sometimes I work with faculty on how exactly to do that.  BUT the thing he chose to go to war over was his God-given right to misgender transgender students.  If you've ever been in a classroom with a teacher you don't like, you can maybe understand how the power differential between student and professor feels from the short end of the stick.  Being in charge of impressionable young people first experiencing life out from under the shadows of their parents, even for just a couple of hours a week, is an awesome responsibility with real world repercussions that can last the rest of a student's life.  Anyone who takes a so-called Principled Stand for the right to be mean to their students has festering dogcrap where his soul should be, in my opinion.
  2. Peterson regularly rails against postmodernism and postmodernists, including people who don't fit actually those categories.  For example, he regularly goes in hard against Michel Foucault, who wasn't a postmodernist, but a poststructuralist.  Peterson can't tell the difference between the two or likes lumping people together for rhetorical purposes.  Neither of these is a good thing, in my humble opinion.  There's plenty to critique Foucault for, but I always get the impression that Peterson's real objections to him is that he is A) French and B) gay.  I'm pretty sure he's even called Foucault the worst guy that ever lived, or something like that.  Maybe he never heard of Hitler?  Or Stalin?  Leopold II?  Any of these names ringing a bell?
  3. One of the funny-haha/funny-strange things about Peterson's critique of left-wing intellectuals like Jacques Derrida is that he regularly yells at them for being imprecise and playing dodgy rhetorical games to make their points, but his own arguments against them seem to rely on imprecision and rhetorical flourish.  Weird.
  4. He apparently believes that because lobsters and humans share a certain chemical in their brains, somehow that proves that human gender relations should be ordered the same way lobsters do it.  I swear to God, if I didn't know he was a real person, I would have thought Charles Dickens or Laurence Sterne invented him to lampoon intellectuals with their heads up their asses.
  5. Peterson is one of those right-wing intellectuals who like to go on TV and complain that they are being silenced.  Does that mean all the left-wing academics who have never been on TV are being even more silenced-er?  I dunno.
  6. What is up with his suits?  Most public intellectuals dress on the shabby side of middle class respectable.  Think Einstein frumping about in his sweaters or Carl Sagan's infamous turtlenecks.  Peterson dresses like he'd rather be in the aristocracy than do honest work teaching and researching.  Again, weird.
  7. He's written at least one self-help book that apparently is being taken up in numbers by the kind of young men who need a Really Smart Dude to tell them to shower regularly and make their bed.  I actually don't have an objection to that.  A couple weeks ago I was waiting for my train home and the student sitting next to me was reading Peterson.  My gut reaction was to tell him to put that trash away and do his homework.  But I didn't, because I know that while self-help books tend to be banal tripe, but they are banal tripe that has an audience.  You can make a nice living writing self-help books because people are dumb and need to be told what to do.  I'm not making judgements on this point.  I am just as often a dumb guy who needs to be told what to do.  So if a smidgeon of advice from Peterson once helped James turn his life around, I say bless Jordan Peterson even though he seems like a dillhonker to me.
Man, "Bless Jordan Peterson for helping James out" sure sounds like one of those things that cishet white dudes say that really sticks it in the back of other folks who didn't win the privilege lotto, though I mean it more in the vein of the backhanded Southern compliment "bless his heart" than in the Jesus sense of "blessed are the peacemakers."  Overall, I think the world would be a better place if Peterson worried less about being a public figure and a little more about being a good person, but that doesn't change the fact that he probably has helped a few people out along the way with the same sort of advice one can find reading nearly any self-help book.  Heck, most of Charles Atlas's pamphlets come down to "exercise and clean living helps you get your life together, son."  It ain't rocket science.

(And really, it just kills me that this guy can't seem to build a credible, evidence-based case against people like Foucault and Derrida.  It's not that hard!  You just have to put in the work to read and try to understand what the hell they are up to.  I'm a farm boy who thinks Thundarr the Barbarian is the pinnacle of human culture, and I can understand at least some of what those cats are doing.)

But let's get back to the James situation.  As much as I respect Kiel Chenier, I think he may have made the wrong call when he announced he was ending his working relationship with LotFP.  This is not a callout post written to harsh on Kiel, though.  If we're going to harsh on anyone in this space, I think it should be, first of all, Peterson (that lobster thing is still making me crazy), and second of all, Raggi, for dropping this turd in the punchbowl.  But I'm not for kicking James to the curb and here's why.

First of all, having a "problematic fave," as the kids on the tumblers say, is in and of itself not a sin.  We live in a world where purity tests will damn us all.  Can we do better?  Should we do better?  Of course.  I think it would be great if James repudiated Peterson completely.  But if, as James suggests, this was the guy whose writings offered him a hand at a time when he was trapped in the Pit of Despair, who I am to now tell him to reject that guy?  If you've ever been down in that pit, you know that whoever helped you out of it is now one of your "ride or die" people.  (I got that from tumblr as well, please correct me if I am mangling it.  I still use "groovy" unironically, so my lingo may be a tad out of touch.)

Second and more importantly, I believe that the material matters.  The material conditions of Lamentations of the Flame Princess as a publishing outfit is that it throws a lot of work to people who Peterson would dislike on spec because they don't fit well into his patriarchal heteronormative magic lobster world.  And, in case you didn't know, James pays freelancers better than pretty much any other outfit I know of.  Compare this to people who proclaim liberal politics but pay starvation wages and otherwise do crappy things (Evil Hat is the poster boy of the moment in this regard.  Great work exploiting then dumping Contessa, Mr. Hicks.  Green Ronin also comes to mind).  I'll take the metal weirdo with the dodgy hero over the perfomatively woke hacks any day of the week.  And I think Kiel would do better sticking with LotFP, taking James' money, and writing an adventure that repudiates everything that Jordan Peterson stands for.  Definitely there should be at least one lobster monster and a wizard who never does any proper magical research because he spends too much time at the tailor.  But hey, if I'm not judging James, then I'm sure as hell not judging Kiel here.

Okay, I'm judging James a little.  Jordan Peterson?  Really?  You couldn't have gone with someone like Steven Pinker, or Stanley Fish, or even Harold Bloom.  I guess I'll have to take cold comfort in the fact that you didn't mention PragerU.

(Seriously. though, Conan with a lightsaber, Chewbacca, and a curvy witch team up to wander Gamma World and pummel mutant cyborg wizards.  WHY IS THIS NOT THE WORLD'S BIGGEST FRANCHISE???)

Road Rash High Compressed Pc Game | High-Compress

Road Rash High Compressed Pc Game

The main game consists of speed races on what appear to be semi-abandoned roads in the western United States. There are only five different cards, but each increases in length as the game progresses. However, the landscape varies only slightly. There is the grassy forest scene, the beach scene, the mountain scene and two other scenes of the forest. However, you will not exactly see the landscape when driving at breakneck speed. One of the interesting aspects of Road Rash is that you have a health bar for your body and your bike. This means that you can not just deal with things, it also means that you should avoid fighting with police, other cyclists and cars. This adds a definite level of balance to the player against the opponents of the AI, which makes it a challenge and a pleasure to nest and attract traffic. Cars are a big threat, as hitting them, even a bit, will throw you in the air like a rag. Although you might lose the race, seeing it is a sight to contemplate, and it can cause a crazy laugh or cry every time. There is not much history, aside from "make sure the police do not understand it". It's because it's a racing game, which is perfectly correct. The gameplay holds up pretty well without a story that says that running is great. If they could make a good story, it would be great, but at this point the game is good. It is difficult to buy all the bicycles without history, but it is a goal to aspire to. On some before the propaganda of the race, the interaction with other characters is not really there. Usually, they give you a suggestion or a word of encouragement before each race. The main problem of the game seems to be the difficulty curve. After the first level, it seems that everything wants to kill you. Cyclists and police probably do, but normal pedestrians in their yellow cars should not be! This also causes some problems, because when two cars block the road at the same time after a blind turn, you have nowhere to go. Go as usual, crush the cars. Get off the road, hit a sign. This can easily ruin your win, but at least you can see the fun animations of being thrown into the air and running on your bike. The graphics of the game are very attractive to them. Cars in the distance are easily identifiable, so do not crush them immediately. Each new bike changes the color of your bike and the bike itself, while increasing the speed and health of your bike. A major flaw with the graphics is the camera. If there was a way to put it in a different light, it would greatly improve the way you play the game.

The visual elements are always attractive in general, except that there is a little too much brown. The controls are correct, mainly because of the ease of use. Go with one button, reduce the speed with the other, attack with the third. Turning with the d-pad is a good thing, and getting out of corners requires you to counter the lean to straighten as quickly as possible. Using the up and down directions changes the type of attack. By pressing the kicks, the opponents move away, pressing gives you a powerful shot. This facilitates learning and play, but it's hard to master the hard times.
Finally, we have music. Oh the music. A mix of hard rock and super rockabilly makes the races exciting and stays in your head. The pleasure of melodies is great, and walking on the main road is also very fun. Everyone has a catchy sense of the day for them. However, the absence of the engine is a negative aspect of the sound, but we could say that it is also for the better. Nobody wants to hear the sound of an annoying mid-motor engine about music, but if it was silent under the music, it could add a lot to the atmosphere of the game. However, not everything is great. Part of the AI on the computer is a little silly, or even slow to the point that it becomes very easy to pass. The cops also seem to be very difficult to hunt. Defending against them means having to defeat them or install them in another car. Cars are another problem because they occupy almost the entire road, which is why it is difficult to draw them if they arrive at the same time. Some things could be improved. A little more variety in the width of the road would be a welcome addition as well as in the landscape.

Google Mobile Developer Day At Game Developers Conference 2019

Posted by Kacey Fahey, Developer Marketing, Google Play & Android

We're excited to host the Google Mobile Developer Day at Game Developers Conference 2019. We are taking this opportunity to share best practices and our plans to help your games businesses, which are fuelling incredible growth in the global mobile games market. According to Newzoo, mobile games revenue is projected to account for nearly 60% of global games revenue by 2021. The drivers of this growth come in many forms, including more developers building great games, new game styles blurring the lines of traditional genres, and the explosion of gaming in emerging markets - most notably in India.

To support your growth, Google is focused on improving the game development experience on Android. We are investing in tools to give you better insights into what is happening on devices, as well as in people and teams to address your feedback about the development process, graphics, multiplayer experiences, and more.

We have some great updates and new tools to improve game discovery and monetization on Google Play, which we also shared today during our Mobile Developer Day:

Pre-registration now in general availability

Starting today, we are launching pre-registration for general availability. Set up a pre-registration campaign in the Google Play Console and start marketing your games to build awareness before launch. Users who pre-register receive a notification at launch, which helps increase day one installs.

Google Play Instant gaining adoption

We have seen strong adoption of Google Play Instant with 3x growth in the number of instant games and 5x growth in the number of instant sessions over the last six months. Instant experiences allow players to tap the 'Try Now' button on your store listing page and go straight to a demo experience in a matter of seconds, without installing. Now, they're even easier to build with Cocos and Unity plug-ins and an expanded implementation partner program. Discover the latest updates on Google Play Instant.

Android App Bundles momentum and new large download size threshold

Over 60K apps and games on Google Play are now using the Android App Bundle publishing format, which is supported in Android Studio, Unity, and Cocos Creator. The app bundle uses Google Play's Dynamic Delivery to deliver a smaller, optimized APK containing only the resources needed for a specific device.

To better support high quality game experiences and reflect improved devices, we've also increased the size limit for APKs generated from app bundles to 150MB and raised the threshold for large download user warnings on the Google Play Store to 150MB, from 100MB.

Improved tools in the Google Play Console

Store listing experiments let you A/B test changes to your store listing on actual Play Store visitors. We recently rolled out improvements, introducing two new metrics - first time installers and D1 retained users - to more accurately reflect the performance of your store listings. These two new metrics are now reported with hourly intervals and are available via email notifications, letting you see results faster and track performance better.

Country targeted store listings allow you to tailor your app's store listing to appeal to users in different countries. You can customize the app title, icon, descriptions and graphic assets, allowing you to better appeal to users in specific target markets. For example, you can now tailor your store listing with different versions of the English language for users in India versus the United States.

Rewarded ads give players the choice to watch an advertisement in exchange for in-app items. With rewarded ads in Google Play, you can now create and manage rewarded ads through the Google Play Console. No additional SDK integrations are required.

We hope you try some of these new tools and keep sharing ideas so we can make Android and Google Play a better place to grow your business. We are committed to continue improving the platform and building tools that better serve the gaming community.

Get started today by visiting two new resources, a hub for developers interested in creating games on Android and games.withgoogle.com, for developers looking to connect and scale their business across Google. Many of these updates and resources come from community suggestions, so sign up for our monthly newsletter to stay informed.

Sutori Stories

Sutori is a web tool that offers a powerful combination—simplicity and a unique formatting structure that allows students to organise content along a vertical continuum.

The college has a site licence for premium access, just inform a DLC if you'd like your teacher account to be upgraded and they will arrange that for you. As a teacher, any students you add to your class in Sutori will also be upgraded to premium account.

The obvious application is for the creation of a timeline (this tool used to be called HSTRY) but really the true power of it is in easily allowing the distribution of content in a way that shows understanding of order, process, within a linear structure that can also easily be used for collaboration, and can easily be shared with others.

Grade 6 Humanities

Here's an example from a Grade 6 student in a class who were asked to use Sutori to demonstrate their understanding of chronological order.

At the scale of a few days:

And at the scale of ancient history:

Grade 8 English

Approaching challenging texts:

Embedding for Formative Assessment

As Sutori supports embedding, it is a relatively simple step for students to use the embed code to submit their artefacts as an assignment to an online learning platform, making it very easy for the teacher to view the learning in progress and provide feedback see the example here, using Teamie, you can view my other post on embedding if you'd like more detailed instructions on how to do this:

Age Restrictions

Sutori supports Single Sign On (using Google) but unfortunately will restrict the features available if the student using the platform is under 13 years of age. This doesn't really curtail the use of the tool, but it does mean that they cannot share their work very easily, for example using embed code, or using a share link for peers or for their teacher to view. Instead, the teacher would need to set up a class within Sutori and invite students to join, then can share their work within Sutori, which is better than nothing, but far from ideal.

An alternative (apart from waiting until they are 13 years old) is to use this Google Drawing as a template, not as simple to use as Sutori, but pretty close:
